Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Califf.) A New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) called on Wednesday to resign in the wake of the Federal Corruption (DOJ) to lift the federal corruption.
“I agree with most New Yorkers and Mr. Mayor think you should resign,” Garcia told Adams, who was testifying with another Democratic mayor before the House Oversite Committee.
“We have the right to know that the Trump administration has forced you to agree with anything,” said Garcia. “Are you selling New Yorkers to protect yourself from action?”
Adams refused to take part in any quid.
Adams said to the committee, “There is no deal. There is no quid pro. I didn’t do anything wrong.”
Adams originally is set to be in a hearing on the charge of contributing bribe, wire fraud and illegal campaigns in April, but a federal judge overseeing the criminal case delayed the trial for indefinitely as he considers the allegations by the DOJ.
The hearing where the exchange was held includes Boston’s Mayor Mitchell Wu (D), Chicago’s Mayor Brendon Johnson (D) and Denver Mayor Mike Johnston (D).
Former US Attorney Daniel Susoon said it was like a “Quid Pro Quo” in which the case would end the case in exchange for the mayor to assist the mayor with his immigration priority.
Earlier this week, Democratic Reps. Jamie Ruskin (Mo.) and Jasmine Crocket (Texas), who are members of the Justice Committee, announced that they are launching an investigation into DOJ’s move to put out corruption against Adams.
After the presidential election won last year, Adams had a friendly front with Trump’s team. Democratic Mayor appeared significantly with Trump’s current board Caesar Tom Homan on “Fox and Friends” last month, while Adams agreed to allow Federal Immigration Officers to operate on Rickers Island. Moving to New York City Sanctuary city policies has changed drastically. In addition, the two agreed to work together to solve the city’s “migration problem”.
The mayor of New York City is set to re -election this year and former New York. A high profile primary challenge has already been received from Andrew Cumo (D).
