The explosion began overnight. There is no immediate report of casualties. 12,300 feet (3,763-meter) high volcanoes are most active in Central America. It was last out in June 2023.
One 2018 explosion 194 people were killed and 234 were missing.
The volcano from the capital of Guatemala is 33 miles (53 km).
Guatemala’s disaster agency said early Monday that the flow of volcanic material is medium to medium but is expected to grow.
